Mobility Product Types
Power Scooters usually have 3 wheels and look more like a bycicle. They can have 4 wheels and the 4 wheel scooters are usually safer as they are more stable. Both 3 wheel scooters and 4 wheel scooters have a handle bar and a seat and the handle bar is what controls the scooter.
Power wheelchairs are one type of power mobility product. It is just what it sounds like " a whelechair that has power". Power wheelchairs usually have 4 wheels but can have 6 based on stabilizer wheels that are usually in the back. They have a joystick on one side of the armrest and that is how the power wheelchair is controlled. They are sometimes confused with scooters as many people call the whole power mobility product line scooters.
Ramps are used to provide a slope for easy access into homes and businesses so the wheels of the mobility product do not get caught in the doorway. They come in small and larger ramps as well as folding to travel with you more efficiently. The ramp size is based on inches starting at 2". They are also used to get the mobility equipment in a van more easily.
Lifts are used to transport your mobility product and are usually attached to the back of your car. They help you or your loved one get around town or go on trips when you do not have a van.
